After retiring, I knew I wanted to help out at FCAR and volunteer a few hours a week. I soon realized that there is also a great need to foster our furry friends. So for the past 20 months or so, I've fostered 2 sets of kittens with their mothers and several individual cats that just needed some one on one time and lots of loving. These were cats that have been neglected or abandoned or mistreated, and just needed someone to love them and reinstate their confidence in people.

The first step is to fill out the volunteer application and attend a volunteer orientation. Orientations are required for all volunteer positions and happen a few times monthly. Any volunteer who is 15 yrs old or under must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Kids to Cats
Help us keep our animals healthy. These volunteers help clean out kennels, scoop litter boxes, change linens, etc. All volunteers will start in the public areas of the shelter and be able to work towards helping with our dogs.
Are you a people person? These volunteers help out at the front desk when we are open. They answer the phone and greet visitors when they come in. Once you get to know our animals, you can also help people find their new pet.
Event Volunteers help us throughout the year at a variety of opportunities throughout the county. From adoption events to tabling to fundraisers, event volunteers brings FCAR to the community.
It takes a lot to keep our shelter clean and these volunteers are essential. This opportunity is available Sunday and Monday afternoons and helps us get the nooks and crannies.
If you are a cat lover this is a job for you! Cat Cuddlers are invited to cuddle cats during our open hours. Cuddlers provide much need human interaction and help to reduce stress in our shelter cats.
Held the first Thursday of each month, Kids to Cats offers the chance for our youngest volunteers to come to the rescue, and help socialize our friends by reading to them and giving them some one on one attention. To learn more about Kids to Cats please email volunteer@fcarpets.org
